Business Improvement Districts
Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are 'business led partnerships which are created through a ballot process to deliver additional services to local businesses. They can be a powerful tool for directly involving local businesses in local activities and allow the business community and local authorities to work together to improve the local trading environment' (gov.uk). A BID operates within a defined area and English BIDs are populated on the map below. BIDs can be powerful organisations for local place making and providing services in addition to that of a local authority. They also liaise with the local business community and other stakeholders so can provide a conduit to high street users and providers.
Future High Street Fund: Successful Locations
The aim of the Future High Streets Fund is to renew and reshape town centres and high streets in a way that drives growth, improves experience and ensures future sustainability. It will do this by providing co-funding to successful applicants to support transformative and structural changes to overcome challenges in their area (gov.uk). The map displays locations for which local authorities have been successful in progressing to a business case development phase and will be awarded up to £25m to invest.
Civic Societies (Members of Civic Voice)
There are hundreds of local voluntary civic and amenity societies across England. These societies provide a focus of voluntary and community action to improve the places where people live, work and relax (civicvoice.org.uk). Our Partners, Civic Voice, the national charity for the civic movement in England, have provided a list of their Members which are populated on the map below.
Heritage Action Zones
Historic England provides funding for Heritage Action Zones and works with local people and partners to breathe new life into old places that are in heritage and full of promise - unlocking their potential and making them more attractive to residents, businesses, tourists and investors (historicengland.org.uk). The map below includes all Heritage Action Zones.
Towns Fund: Locations
On 6 September 2019 the government invited 100 places to develop proposals for a Town Deal, as part of the £3.6 billion Towns Fund (gov.uk). To access Towns Fund investment, locations prepare a Town Investment Plan and detailed projects and business cases. Through supporting local economic plans and partnerships, the Towns Fund will help chart a course and lay the groundwork for levelling up over the longer term (gov.uk).
High Streets Task Force: Pilot Locations
