Opening Hours - 237 'Vital and Viable' Factors
As part of our series on vital and viable high streets, the High Streets Task Force is presenting 'evidence on a page' summaries of over 200 factors that influence the success of high streets. Here we address opening hours; the number of hours that high street premises stay open on the town centre, High Street, shopping centre, retail park, etc.
Opening hours is an essential factor for most elements of the high street, from planning regulations to daily activities. The opening hours of retail, hospitality and commercial premises throughout the day, week and year, not only provide an indication of potential busyness of the centre but also how high street strategies can be implemented based on the cyclical repetitive process of opening/closing shops (Muliček and Osman, 2018).
Opening hours is one of 237 factors that have been identified as influencing the vitality and viability of the high street.
