Felixstowe Case Study

This case study, centred on the traditional Edwardian seaside town of Felixstowe in Suffolk, outlines the efforts made by East Suffolk Council who are in the process of creating an overall Felixstowe vision document due to be launched in November 2020, that aims to help reduce the impact of COVID-19 while also creating connections between seafront and town centre, enhancing the night-time economy, improving the south seafront area, enhancing and extending the visitor offer of Felixstowe and the peninsula, enhancing the historic, environmental, and natural quality of the area, delivering new housing in an accessible location, improving health and wellbeing outcomes, and supporting the Port of Felixstowe and the wider ports and logistics sector. The case study also outlines the "Re-Opening Safely" response to COVID-19, with temporary pedestrianisation of Felixstowe Town Centre ‘Shared Space, support for seafront businesses, and the proposal for a Felixstowe BID that at the time of writing is preparing to go to ballot.
